The RStudio Connect Quickstart is a virtual machine that runs on Mac and Windows desktops. Download the Quickstart to experience RStudio Connect free without ever having to set up a server.

Installation Requirements

RStudio Connect Quickstart works on Mac and Windows. You will need a desktop capable of running VirtualBox, 15 Gb of disk space, and an Internet connection. By using RStudio Connect Quickstart, you agree to the following terms and conditions.

Getting Started

Step 1: Install VirtualBox

RStudio Connect Quickstart requires VirtualBox — a free and open source virtualization product that runs on Mac, Windows, and other operating systems. Download and install VirtualBox, then open the VirtualBox Manager.

Step 2: Import Appliance

Download the RStudio Connect Quickstart then import it using the VirtualBox Manager.

  1. Navigate to File > Import Appliance.
  2. Select the RStudio Connect Quickstart file to import (.ova) then select Continue.
  3. Modify the appliance settings so you get the full 45 day trial license.
    • Mac: Select the Reinitialize Mac Address check box.
    • Windows: Select Generate new MAC addresses for all network adapters from the MAC Address Policy drop down.
    • Select Import.

Step 3: Start the Quickstart virtual machine

Select the appliance you want to start. Use the dropdown under the start arrow to select Headless Start. Your virtual machine should start within a few seconds. Note: When the server first starts, all necessary services should start up automatically. Port 5000 is mapped by default.

Step 4: Navigate to your browser

Point your browser to http://localhost:5000. You have successfully installed the QuickStart when you see the Getting Started pageThis webpage will also direct you to documentation for using the QuickStart.
